The official post, datelined Springfield, quotes commissioner Justine Siegal: “We are pleased to have Jemile Weeks take over as manager of the Boston Hunters.” It says he “brings extensive professional baseball experience” and would “immediately assume responsibility for the club.” Weeks is quoted: “I’m very excited to become the manager of the Boston Hunters and help lead these women into a championship season while bettering, and growing, their game.”

Boston.com’s Aug. 12 report, citing the same change, said Weeks began the WPBL season as an assistant with Los Angeles, played six MLB seasons (including 17 games for the Red Sox), and is the younger brother of Rickie Weeks Jr. The State Journal-Register’s Aug. 11 story also identified him as a Los Angeles Queens assistant in the league’s Sunday release. We’re sticking to those public reports and the official announcement.
