The league’s April 30 schedule announcement billed her as LA’s “legendary pitcher” for the Aug. 1 opener against New York. The July 7 New Era / opening-weekend preview listed “Japanese legend Ayami Sato” with Mo’ne Davis and Ashton Lansdell in that same Opening Day lineup. The official Aug. 1 Game 1 preview called her one of the best women pitchers in the sport and said she had six consecutive gold medals and three MVP titles at the Women’s Baseball World Cup. ESPN’s league explainer lists her as a Queens RHP. She is a featured player on the official LA team page.

On Aug. 1 she started the league opener. The official recap said the Japanese right-hander “had a couple of nice curves” but that New York went ahead 5–2 in the first after a stretch of consecutive hits. On Aug. 12 she started against San Francisco. The official recap had her “knocked out of the box after four innings of six earned runs and three strikeouts.” MLB.com’s story on Kelsie Whitmore’s three-homer game said two of those home runs came against starter Ayami Sato, whom that story called one of the best women’s pitchers in the world.
